Flight Schedule Updates Released by Heathrow Airport Ahead of Queen’s Funeral

To the surprise of many airline passengers, airport bosses shared an update about operations that could affect flights.

Heathrow Airport Bosses confirmed that there will be no impact on the same day’s flight schedule. But some airline passengers thought that perhaps the death of Queen Elizabeth II would affect the flights.

The late Queen, who was Britain’s longest-reigning crowned head, died at Balmoral Castle on Thursday.

After her death, the UK entered an official period of grief. And due to this, some sporting events such as Premier League football matches got postponed.

People find it surprising that travel services may be affected by the death of Queen Elizabeth II. However, Berkshire Live received an update from a Heathrow spokesperson about normal operations at the airport.

The spokesperson mentioned normal operations at the airport alongside assuring that flight schedules won’t be impacted.

He further added that they were not able to comment anything on the status of operations for the next week. However, we will have a better idea of the situation in the coming days.

On Monday 19 September, the Queen’s 10-day mourning period will end. So, her funeral will be organized at 11 on the day at Westminster Abbey. And, due to this, King Charles announced a bank holiday throughout the UK on September 19.

On Saturday, he created the order when he met the Privy Council for the first time. He was officially declared the new monarch during the ceremony.

It will be similar to normal bank holidays with no statutory entitlement for the time off. Employers can include it as part of a worker’s annual leave.

The government expects businesses and organisations to respond to leave requests from workers on the day of the funeral, sensitively. Although it’s up to the employer’s discretion. It also expects schools to shut down on the day.
