Tourists Want Journeys to be More Eco-friendly and Quicker

Amadeus, the travel industry’s major Spanish IT solutions provider, conducted a study on travellers’ preferences. It reveals that travellers want their trips to be more eco-friendly and quicker, equipped with new tech for better experiences.

However, the inclination towards the use of technology comes with concerns about cyber security and data privacy. Considering this, travellers want authorities to create and implement stricter privacy rules.

The study from Amadeus attracted participation from over 10,000 travellers living across 15 nations including the UK, Spain, France, and Germany. This allowed Amadeus to collect more data about the perception of travellers towards sustainable travel and new technologies.

The survey data reveals excitement among travellers for journeys going quicker by 2033 as compared to the current stats. Moreover, travellers have also expressed excitement towards trips going more sustainable in the future. In addition to the excitement for the above-mentioned topics, participants also mentioned worries about different platforms using their personal data.

Travellers are eager about using cryptocurrency or facial recognition to pay for their trips. Plus, they are also keen towards quicker passport controls. Simultaneously, they shared deep concerns about potential cyberattacks and the use of their data in the next decade.

On the survey results, Paco Perez-Lazao Ruter, President of Hospitality, Amadeus, stated that travellers must leave positive impacts on their destinations and feel safe about data privacy. Moreover, Ruter emphasized the evolution of travellers’ experiences. He suggested that the industry should understand their preferences and adapt to the same.

A statement by Tuter reads, “We have different needs depending on the trip, who we’re travelling with and what we are looking for. The challenge for the industry is to adapt to people’s changing preferences, ensuring that destinations and places deliver what travellers want.”

Another piece of advice, in addition to the above, states that more people are now investing in virtual meetings while minimizing unnecessary trips. The response of travellers can be classified into two categories. One includes those concerned about their privacy and travel future while the others have already planned their future trips.

Earlier, a report from SchengenVisaInfo.com reported advance booking for the next holidays is already done by 44% of Europeans. Moreover, over 50% of those planning trips during 2023’s first half stated their intentions of spending extravagantly.
