In Madeira and Azores, COVID-19 measures are now eased as per the latest travel advice by the UK Foreign Office.
However, in spite of these relaxations, most Azores islands are still under alert. So, if you are travelling to these areas, you have to follow certain safety guidelines. For instance, using a face mask is required to enter medical amenities, retirement, and nursing homes.
Moreover, these measures don’t apply to kids 10 years of age or younger. If we talk about Madeira, most areas are now free from restrictions. But still, you have to follow some guidelines for safe and secure travel. And if you test COVID-19 positive or are entering pharmacies, nursing, and retirement homes, you need to use a face mask.
Anyone who is six years old or older must abide by these rules. While restrictions are no longer in place on the Portuguese mainland, you must still wear a face mask to enter hospitals, retirement communities, and nursing homes. Children under the age of nine are exempt from this rule.
Additionally, the Portuguese health authority also advises wearing a face mask when travelling by plane, or public transportation like taxis, at airports, railroad stations, and transportation hubs. When entering a building, you should put on your face mask as necessary and keep it worn until you depart.
Any violation of rules may attract a fine and penalty.
