In 2022, the UK has taken the top spot in the list of overseas visitors to Greece.
The Director of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), Eleni Skarvali appreciates that Britons continue to visit Greece and mentions that the UK overtook Germany as the top source of tourists for Greece.
She said, “It is great to see so many Brits coming to Greece” while speaking to Travel Weekly at the inaugural awards ceremony of the tourist board.
“Every year, many Brits visit Greece. But this year, over three million Brits travellers visited the nation. This brings the tourist count close to the levels in 2019, making it the top source market.”
“Earlier, it was Germany. But since Covid has arrived, Germans have become more cautious than Britishers regarding travel.”
“However, issues with airports, increasing energy costs, and the Ukraine war have badly affected travel. Regardless of the issues, Brits desperately wanted to travel this year and they wanted to come to Greece.”
“We are delighted to welcome them,” she further added.
The tourism board revealed a sustainable travel platform last month. It is aimed at educating tour operators, travel agents, and consumers in Britain about sustainable holidays in Greece.
